PAT BENATAR
Pat Benatar (New York, January 10, 1953) is an American singer. She was very successful in the 1980s with more than 30 million albums sold and won four consecutive Grammy Awards (from 1981 to 1984) for Best Female Rock Performance. The singer has 17 hit singles in the top 40 of the American charts, including Love Is A Battlefield , We Belong , Heartbreaker and Hit Me With Your Best Shot. She is also one of the most popular artists during the first years of the MTV music channel.
STYLE
While the ‘80s is known for its aerobic-inspired spandex obsession, the root of the desire arguably goes back just before the decade began. On Halloween 1977, Pat Benatar dressed up as a character from the sci-fi B movie Cat-Women of the Moon, fully clad in spandex and bold eye makeup, a toy ray gun at her hip, then later that night performed onstage at the New York cabaret Catch a Rising Star. Though she sang her usual set, this time audience exploded in delight. It inspired more, similar costumes, and that sleek, skintight look soon became her signature and paved the way for future female favorites like Gwen Stafani, P!nk, Marina and The Diamonds, Haim, Miley Cyrus, and more.
For Benatar, the clothes she wore onstage were chosen out of necessity. Her earliest look — the Danskins and nylons combo that caused such a sensation — was simply an evolution of the Cat Woman costume, worn for comfort. ‘For some reason I need the freedom of being able to move like this. So, tights were what worked,’ she said in 1980. ‘I can’t wear jeans and sing, I can’t, and I won’t wear a dress.’

So, in this photo, she’s wearing a pretty, purple, zebra print, spandex, v-necked body “cat” suit; bright red, patent leather belt and matching red, patent leather, open back, strapless peep-toes.
And if she wanted to wear something stretchy and clingy (a catsuit or a bandeau top), she always topped it off with a blazer for extra coverage.
She’s wearing a nice, blue, ruched leotard; fashionable, black, studded belt; a pair of trendy, black, nylon tights; a stylish, quite loose, black blazer and cool, black, suede, high-heeled ankle boots.

Benatar's bold make-up also became a signature style to accompany her bold songs
We belong
My favourite Pat Benatar song is titled “We Belong”. I first heard the song as a duet cover on the tv series “supergirl” and i thought that the lyrics were unique
We belong to the light, we belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words we've both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace for worse or for better
We belong, we belong, we belong together
I went on to listen to the original, but I never considered it to be a “rock” song. The name “soft rock” definitely suits it because while its lyrics and sound are soft and calm, the background instruments give it a different edge. I’m not a huge fan of the banging and shredding of most rock songs, so this one has a greater chance of being on my playlist.
