Queen was a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals and piano), Brian May (lead guitar and vocals), Roger Taylor (drums and vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radiofriendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music.

Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile. Mercury, then known by his birth name, Farrokh Bulsara, was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. Mercury joined in 1970, suggested the name “Queen”, and adopted his familiar stage name. Deacon was recruited before the band recorded their eponymous debut album in 1973.  Their performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert has been ranked among the greatest in rock history by various music publications. The last concert featuring their classic line up– the final live performance of Mercury–took place at Knebworth, England, in August 1986. In 1991, Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and Deacon retired in 1997. May and Taylor have performed under the Queen name with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert as vocalists on tours since then. Each member of Queen has composed multiple hit singles, and all four band members were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.

Queen

What is Queen ?

The band was introduced to the world with long shoulder length locks with bangs, leather jackets, the super colourful flower patterned clothing that was very popular in the 1970s, and bell bottoms and platform shoes. Throughout the years, the band became a huge influence inside the fashion industry and they would inspire lot’s of lifestyle outfits. During their early years, they were known for wearing colorful, with lots of textures clothing. Among the members of Queen, Freddie was always the most glamorous when on stage or for a photo session. He set the conditions when it came to dressing among the group, even arguing and getting upset with any of them and only so that they dressed according to what he wanted. Freddie has also been considered worldwide the first male rock singer to go on stage and perform in ballet tights, which leaves us with a reflection: he was and will be unmatched. By the beginning of Queen's career, Freddie wore long hair, black-painted nails, silk clothes, tight pants, boots or high-heeled shoes, necklaces, and much more. Taking into account that each of those garments were made exclusively for Freddie by people who were experts in design and fashion, sometimes making him look like satin and sometimes with diamonds. By 1977, the use of tights was part of his new signature on stage. Checkered leggings in the style of harlequins in different colors, and hair a little shorter than the beginning.

My favourite song

My favourite song by Queen is “Too much love will kill” because I think it has a really powerful emotional message inside it’s lyrics. It was written by Brian May right after the main voice of the group, Freddy Mercury, found out that he was diagnosed with HIV.

The lyrics talk about how painfull can love be and how it can affect your behaviour, and also how a thing like, for example an illness, can come out catching you off-guard and with no previous warning  it changes your life and the way you see the world, and also, about how hard can the consequences of our unconscious acts be. We can se this kind of sentences in lines like:

"...About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
                 Where I went wrong..
."

                                                                  or

" ...I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down.
.."
